Olint’s boss, David Smith pulled over $20 million from a local financial institution, one of several holding millions in personal accounts, according to well-placed sources.
This latest development along with requests from Smith to other local financial houses triggered a warning from the Financial Services Commission (FSC) to local financial institutions to be careful as to how they release funds to the beleaguered Ponzi scheme boss.
But in the absence of a world-wide freeze on Smith’s accounts, the FSC warning seems useless, as financial institutions have no legal legs to stand on if they fail to honour Smith’s request.
Smith was forced to draw down funds from local sources because the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI)government has frozen the $13 million in liquid assets discovered by the authorities and he knows that local institutions would have to honour his claims in the absence of a local freeze on his accounts.
Responding to a question as to why there was no freeze on the local assets of Smith, Cadian Campbell, who is an agent of the liquidator stressed that he could not answer that question, while stating that his boss, liquidator Joseph Connolly would be in a better position to respond to it.
He also suggested that contact be made with the FSC to find out why this was not and still has not been done. The job of the liquidator is to locate and distribute the assets of a failed company, based on a certain formula, which would lead to the payment of taxes, creditors, agents and servants first and then shareholders with whatever is left.
The Sunday Herald understands that the FSC also wrote securities dealers a year or so ago to find out how much money they held on behalf of Olint, however, the funds were never frozen.
Many securities dealers confirmed that they have received copies of the letter from the SDA, but stressed that they would have to honour their commitments to Smith if no freeze is imposed on his local assets.
Several efforts made to get comments from FSC executive director, Rohan Barnett, and deputy executive director, George Roper, proved to be futile up to press time.
In a report submitted recently, liquidator Connolly confirmed that Olint was a Ponzi scheme because the US$220 million invested by its 6,000 clients was not being traded on the global foreign exchange market, as Smith led them to believe.
He also pointed out that Olint TCI, which was established on April 2006 with a share capital of only US$1,000, split 60:40 between Smith and his wife Tracy Smith, was supposed to be an investment manager of public funds through various subsidiaries such as Hallmark Bank and Trust.

Tiger Woods suffers injury in car accident...

The Woods

The number 1 golfer in the world, Tiger Woods suffered injury in what seems to be a freak accident near his home in Orange County, Florida on Friday. It is still unknown as to the reason for the accident. However, his wife Elin had to use a golf club to shatter the back glass of his 2009 Cadillac Escalade to free him. He sustained minor injuries to his face. Woods is expected to give a statement to the police today....

There is a vicious rumour circulating that his wife may have caused the injury to Tiger, as it is alleged that he is having an affair with another woman. However, there is no evidence to suggest that this is the case at this time...

Lessons about the truth...

They often say that the truth hurts. Oh yeah, the truth hurts, but guess what, its good soul food. It is never easy to say the truth, especially when it is someone you care about.

But ask yourself these questions:

1) Will lying make the truth easier to bear?
2) Does sugar coating a lie make it easier to swallow?
3) Will you sleep easier when you lie to someone?
4) Does it make the person stronger when you withhold the truth?

The truth be told, a lie can never make anyone feel better. The bible teaches us that when we intend to speak the truth to someone or to correct, we should do so gently A soft answer turneth away wrath; But a grievous word stirreth up anger - Proverbs 15:1] You should never try to be harsh or overbearing, your words should be seasoned with salt. Wisdom teaches us that the more we push against the truth, the more the lie is exposed. Its like an old Jamaican proverb, "the more the monkey climbs, the more he is exposed."

When we tell someone the truth, we should do so in love. We are not taking our love away, we are building our love for that person by laying that rock solid foundation which is honesty.

When I was 14 years old I told my parents, "oh Mom and Dad I want to be an artist, so I want to study art." My Dad looked at me and said "no". I was hurt to the bone, it was my passion and my love. So I said, "why?", any reasonable child would ask that. He said, "son you could never pay your bills, adn you would have to be an exceptional artist". I was so mad. But when I thought about it carefully and analysed his words, he was so right. I wasn't a great artist, and you had to be in the business for at least 10-15 years  to make a name, and even that wasn't guaranteed. It hurt real bad, but it was the truth. If they had lied, it may have ended in disaster.

Often times we have friends who say what we to hear. But is it good? No way. Jesus when he was on earth would be willing to say the truth without even pausing. He wanted persons to be aware of their sinful condition and there was no compromise. Jesus was never afraid to be honest or truthful. Lets look at how he spoke to the ruler of the synagogue regarding sabbath keeping, But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? Luke 13:15" In Matthew 16:4, he refers to the Pharisees and Sadduces saying, " An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah. And he left them, and departed." There are so many other instances of Jesus's truthfulnesses that it would fill many pages. A truth saves us, not a lie. A lie only makes a bad wound deeper, it never heals.

In relationships with each other, if we chose to tell the truth whatever the outcome, things would be better. People would know where they stand, and they would not have to assume or guess what we think. This applies to every single relationship that we have in this life.

But the starting point must begin with love as the cornerstone. If we do as the bible teaches us, "that we should love our neighbours as ourselves - Mark 12:31", then it is here that we truly appreciate what being truthful does. If we love someone, then we will tell them the truth without even thinking. We just have to "suck it up" and start doing it today. Start with the simplest situation. For example, if someone comes to you and says I want to buy a phone that costs $500. You should ask, do you need a phone that costs so much? If the response is no. Then our answer should be no to them. But with our answer there should also be an explanation, such as, "you can get  similar phone for $150 that would do the same thing."

So you see, even when you tell the truth, you should always explain why. You can't just say the truth without explanation, as least in some situations. Jesus Christ said the truth but he often explained the why? He even went further to speak of the consequences of one's actions versus the next route. Take the truth about one's salvation. The bible teaches us the painful truth that there are two roads. One road leads to heaven, and the other road leads to hell. It teaches the truth that if we live our life in an unrighteous manner, then we will go to hell. But if we live righteously, submitting totally to God, then we will go to heaven.

So we can see that the truth can have painful choices, but in the end the result is like sweet aroma sailing into heaven...

Hon. Usain Bolt wins again....

It's better late than never. I have been so busy, but I could not miss the fact that the Hon Usain Bolt won the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award. This is the second time that Bolt is winning the award. There was no doubt that Bolt would have won the award, as his performances this year were totally astonishing. Bolt broke the 100 and 200 meters world records again, having broken them in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics. He truly deserves all the accolades he has gotten and this just tops it off. Congrat Usain, you continue to raise the Jamaican flag high...

Lessons from friendships...

Throughout life we come across persons from varying walks of life that touch our hearts. At times it seems like an accident when people come into your life, but most times it seems as if God places each person in our life for a purpose.

It is like when I met my wife. My life was going down the wrong path and she really helped me, by leading me to God. Not only that, she too was going through so much at that time. It seems as though God placed me there at the right time so we could rescue each other. The gift I got from her I could never repay, allowing me to submit my life to God, and to have peace for once in a somewhat tumulus life.

I also learned that our true friends emerge in times of trauma in our lives, such as during a serious illness or financial turmoil. Having been through a lot of turmoil in my life I can attest to that fact. My true friends emerged and the one's that were not true you can say rose to the top of the cream.

Jesus taught us that Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." [John 15:13] We have many friends throughout this life. Friends that encourage you when you are down, those that stimulate your mind, and those that have all the qualities that we love rolled into one. There are often friends that you just meet and the chemistry flows like a rapid river. These type of friends come once in a lifetime and make you realise that there is still good in this world.

Jesus Christ has been a type of friend that cannot be compared in human thought. He left his throne on high to make the greatest sacrifice for man. If we could only take some of the traits of Christ as a friend. He was humble, righteous, always told the truth without sugar coating, sacrificial, a servant  to all, always dealt the same with all, never gossiping, putting his Father first, prayerful. Jesus defines what a true friend should be at any level.

If we all learn to follow the traits of Jesus, then our friendships would always be better. In fact, if we were just to follow one of the greatest commandments of all time, which is " The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these" [Mark 12:31], all would be perfect. Love transcends all evil conditions on mankind. We must kill our ego and live for God first, studying his word and learning how we should treat one another.

Too often we are selfish, only trying to please ourselves. This approach to life only leads to broken friendships and broken lives. If we cannot live in love, then God does not live in us. In fact if we say we have love for God and hate another than we are a lair, this is demonstrated in 1 John 4:20, " If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, cannot love God whom he hath not seen."

Let's be genuine friends to each other. Let's stop the lies and deceit and let the love of God flow through us today, God is watching us.....

Trying my best........

Tears streaming,
pain trapped inside,
love sick mind drenched,
trying my best,
consumed by the beast,
words lost in the sunset,
crimson eyes peering,
when did all this start,
years swallowed in misery,
days drag on like dead weight,
trying my best,
heart barely thumbing,
life meaningless,
eyes staring above,
courage dampened in mud stricken lakes,
brain peering into the window of unconsciousness,
trying my best,
when all seems lost,
scared,
torn by blood thirsty images of regret,
wondering if the light in view is real,
or if darkness will burrow through the sunrise,
trying my best,
when silence burst the eardrums,
highlighting sensations of doubt,
is reality still worthy?
has God taken his wrath upon me?
trying my best,
staring in a mirror of vanity,
valuing the valueless,
chasing sorrows,
hoping that tomorrow will bring ease,
trying my best,
battling emotions...

FIFA rejects Ireland request to replay qualifier...

Here's a freeze frame of the Henry handball.
Thierry Henry handles ball...

FIFA stated that the referee's decision is final and that the FIFA rules do not allow a replay. Henry is one of my favorite player, and it is sad that this has happened to him. The truth be told, soccer has never been a fair game for any team. Too often you see penalties being given when there is no infringement, or penalities been disallowed where there are clear fouls, and you can go on and on. The fact is that Henry is being singled out when so many other players have been guilty of offences, which officials fail to call. Take for instance a scenario where a defeender handles the ball in the penalty box and the referee doesn't see it, have we ever seen a case where that  defender admits to the referee that it should be a penalty, never. Henry has cheated in this latest incident, but is fully protected as the referee did not see it. I endorse what Arsene Wenger is saying, that it is about time that video replays are allowed where there are controversial situations. However, you run the risk of the game becoming a mockery, with lenghty stoppages. The officials are not perfect. This is  not a gentleman's game like cricket, which is fast becoming like any other game in terms of gamemanship.

The fact is, soccer is big business and big money. These teams and players want to win at any cost, as a lot rides on their qualification to the World Cup. It is indeed sad, but this is nothing new. FIFA I believe has made the right decision. If they were to replay every match where there was controversy, then it would never end. Henry, you have put yourself in a pi carious position...... You will have to live with the consequences...

Housing Starts plunge...

Housing starts plunged to 11% in October with a looming expiration of Government tax credit and mounting joblessness in the United States. Building permits, a sign of future construction, also decreased. This is a sure sign that the recession is still far from being over...

Lessons from an Airport..

Recently I took a trip to visit my family. I had a long stop over at the airport, which gave me some time to think about this life. There is an analogy between and airport and life in general. An airport is basically a port of entry and departure.

When we are born we arrive on this earth, through the love and care of our mother, and with the blessings from above. This is our ticket granted by God. This ticket ensures a round trip, as we must depart at some time, as Hebrews 9:27 states, And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:". Of course none of us know our Estimated Time of Departure [ETD]. We are basically in transit, as we await our departure.

The life we live will determine the destination we will go to. The bible teaches that there are two possible destinations that man will reach when he leaves this world: heaven and earth. Jesus Christ is the only one to arrive on this earth in flesh and to return to heaven, [John 3:13, "And no one hath ascended into heaven, but he that descended out of heaven, even the Son of man, who is in heaven."] When Jesus Christ arrived into this world, his intention was to do the will on his Father, Almighty God [John 6:38]. So too when we arrive on this earth, we are all here to do God's will.

We know that the devil is the ruler of hell. He is the only one who can can throw us into hell. Luke 12:5, " But I will warn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him."  We may believe that we are special, and that hell will not see us, but even the angels were banished by God into hell [2 Peter 2:4, " For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment"].

We have to choose wisely the destination we want to reach. Christians are determined to reach heaven, but the road is never easy. Matthew 7:21 teaches us that not all who cry Lord Lord will enter the Kingdom of heaven, only those who do God's will. So though many may believe they are saved, one must check the scriptures thoroughly, ensuring that they are doing God's will. As 2 Timothy 3:16 reminds us, " Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness." Not just some scriptures, but every or all scriptures are essential for righteousness.

There are no delays or cancellations with our departure from this life. That is why we have to siege the moments with each breath to be right with God. The stage is set, God has put everything in place for us to return to him, but if we fail to follow his commands then our destination won't be with him, with with the one who rules hell.

Make your departure right today, we are all in the airport, waiting, waiting.....

Immigration Canada: The Return...

With crime and violence mounting in Jamaica, it seemed like the ideal time to return to Canada. Even with the memories of the cold, it seemed like the right decision to make. My family and I had decided that it would be the opportune time to leave. It was sad leaving, a feeling that hits right to the core. Its like a child going to school for their first day, with tears streaming down their cheeks, wondering if Mommy is deserting them. That is the feeling you get when you leave your home country to go to the unknown, even if it appears known. You never know how the cards will play out. Though you hear stories of Jamaicans who are doing very well, too often you never hear the other side of the story. You never hear how cold it really gets, or how you are treated like a fifth class citizen, or even how the color of ones skin determines whether you get a job. The reality is that you have to live in the country for a long time to really know if its for you are not.

Having returned to Canada, the first real challenge is finding somewhere to rent. One should know that in Canada you cannot rent/lease a place without a credit history. The thing is, to get a credit history, one must have a credit card, and must be spending on that credit card to have a history of your credit. In my case I had a credit card from 2003, which was good, but not so good. The problem is that you need to be spending on your card to improve your score. I had spent on my card, and I decided to pay the minimum monthly amount, which is a huge mistake. I ended up missing two payments, and that messed up my credit history. On top of that, I also had a departmental store card, another huge mistake. You will find that in Canada, every department store wants to offer you a credit card, just to be nice, not. So I ended up owing like $20 on this card, and it turned out that they failed to give me this information. So the $20 turned into $120, by the time I got back to Canada. So when I landed in Canada, the bank had revoked my credit card for owing two payments, crazy, yes I know.

So with no credit card and with my credit score shot to the moon, it was going to be a tough challenge.....

Reggae Boyz draw with Bafana Bafana...

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz held on for a draw against South Africa [Bafana Bafana] today in an exciting match up. South Africa wasted numerous chances and should have won the match by at least two clear goals, but stout defending by the Reggae Boyz dismissed any chances of that happening. The stand out for Jamaica was Shavar Thomas, who stood like a rock in defence.

With the World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa in about 7 months, it seems that Bafana Bafana will need to improve their performances. So far they have looked good going forward, but their finishing has let them down. Their best performance to date was at the Confederations Cup earlier this year, but they have failed to impress since then.

The Reggae Boyz, who failed to make the World Cup and performed poorly at the Gold Cup will be satisfied with this performance. Especially with this draw being away from home. Coach Whitmore utilised his players well, but needs his midfielders to get the ball to the forwards. Devon Hodges was a frustrated man before his substitution. Dane Richards played very well on the right and caused numerous problems to the defenders. However, the problem which plagued Jamaica for many years is coming back. The midfielders are failing to support the forwards, so even when crosses are made, there is no one in the box. This type of play is not limited to the senior team, as this is often the problem at the schoolboy level.

Overall, I would give the Reggae Boyz a C- for their performance, as many of their overseas players were not in the squad, compared to South Africa who had most of their regular starters.

Jobless rate hits record 10.2%...

Just when the US thought they were out of the woods, the forest just got some rain, and the path is looking really muddy. If we thought the recession was over, this is a real wake up call. With a jobless rate of 10.2%, the recession is still on. The last time the rate was at 10% was in 1983, you heard right, that was when I was in primary school. It is very interesting that all the banks that got bail out as well at the car companies are florishing, while those who were left to die are now buried. There has recently been an upsurge in shootings, we saw the Ft. Hood shooting and then today a shooting in Florida and one at another army base. It seems to me that people are losing it, the frustrations are reaching a new high. While it cannot be confirmed that these shootings were because of the recession, it seems highly likely that they could be motivated by a loss of hope.

The sad reality is that the recession is deepening now. In Canada it is biting and only getting worse. The Feds will have to make some tough decisions this week. We will have to wait and see. On another note, we see where the oil greedy countries continue to push up the price of oil, this week it reached a high of $80/barrel. As usual I am just sickened by this, when will it end.....

Shocking shooting at Fort Hood...

I woke up this morning to hear about this shocking shooting at Fort Hood. This is just crazy. What is really going on here? Why did this guy fatally shoot 13 people and injury another 30? The name Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan will ring out at the end of the day. He was the gunman who opened fire on civilians and soldiers at Fort Hood. This guy is a psychiatrist practicing at an Army Hospital, so why did he just snap? So far the authorities have no motive for the attack. This is just unbelievable. These soldiers were training to go to Iraq, and are attacked on their home soil, by one of their own. No one could ever have predicted this incident, and it raises a lot of questions. Of course, even though he is a US citizen, they have started mentioning his Jordanian descent. We will see what happens in the coming days. What is clear is that people are no safer in the US than in any other country....hmmmmmm

Lessons from birthdays....

Once a year we grimace while considering that another year has past. This is especially true for those who have finally reached the blooming age of over 30 years. It is easy to be lost in the moment or to even take for granted the blessing of the moment. While our birth is important, what is even more fundamentally important is knowing that God is walking with us on this life journey.

If we even examine the birth of Jesus Christ for instance, many people fall into the "Christmas" trap, thinking that the birth of Jesus Christ is to be celebrated by man. It is very clear from the bible, that there was never such a celebration. In fact, there is no even a mention of the word "Christmas" in the bible. While I could examine the whole history of the celebration, and how it was coined from a pagan holiday then adopted by the Catholics, time just does not allow such a discussion. The only point is that Christmas is not mandated or authorised by God. What should stand out in our minds is that Jesus Christ came to this earth to suffer a cruel death on the cross, and then to be raised from the dead on the third day. Without his death, burial and resurrection, we would not have the hope of salvation. That is why we celebrate his death by partaking of the Lord's Supper, every first day of the week as commanded by God.

His birth was important, but more important was him following the will of God, that he should be a living sacrifice for us. Let's look at Ephesians 5:1-2, " Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell."  Without that sacrifice we would be lost and without hope.

So while our birthday is important, what is more important is that we also present ourselves as living sacrifices unto God. Roman 12:1 teaches us this profound message, " I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service." For without God we are unholy and unacceptable.

I love celebrating my birthday with family and friends, but I more prefer to be right in the eyes of God. Without him I would not even have been born. When I was 6 months old I suffered chronic bronchitis and the doctors told my Mom that I was going to die, I didn't, thanks be to God. When I was 14 years old and walking home from school, on my avenue I heard gunshots, when I looked a policeman was shooting at a gunman right in my path, I survived, thank God. When I was 21 years old I had to do major surgery, doctors said it was supposed to last 20 minutes, it lasted 1hr and 15 minutes, I survived, thanks be to God. All these experiences have taught me that each day is my birth, each day I rise to walk again with God, thankful and gripping each breath.

Lessons from forgiveness....

We often go through life hearing people say that they "forgive but they don't forget". It seems the old wounds of some dreadful injury have not healed, or has partially healed. I have also uttered such nonsensical words from my mouth. In my ignorance of my understanding the true concept of forgiveness I have been sucked into the abyss of the world's corrupted beliefs.

The truth of the matter is that if we truly took the time to understand God's love for us then the reality of forgiveness would be staring us in the face. When God sent his Son into this world, the true meaning of forgiveness was displayed. Let's be real about who we are as human beings, because far so long we pretend to be someone else, trying to fool those around us that we are all good and perfect beings. The truth be told, human beings from the fall of man in the garden have been totally and completely sinful [Romans 5:12]. This was the birth of spiritual death, not the physical death that some believe. Evil cloaked as knowledge overtook man, and he fell miserably. From that time till now, that has not changed, we are still under the cloud of sin.

When God sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross and be risen on the third day, the gift of forgiveness was given to mankind. This only happens when a soul decides to turn his life over to God, by following the steps to salvation, which are: hear the word, believe, repent, confess Jesus as the Son of Man, and be baptized in water. It is by taking these steps that God forgives us of our sins. For we know that John 9:31, teaches that "We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth." We must be God's child for him to hear our sins.

Jesus love for us was unconditional, no strings attached. He didn't just forgive us, he forgot everything single sin that we committed before we were his. Can you imagine that? If we were to count the number of sins we commit daily, is there any book that could hold the amount? I would say not even the Red Sea could hold our sins.

Yet we still have the tendency of the world. I can remember so many persons I have spoken to saying the words "I forgive him, but I don't forget". It is time that we see that this argument is anti-God, and that the sacrifice of his son would have been fruitless if this was God's approach.

We are expected to forgiveness without any strings. Now we are also expected to learn from these things. Just as Roman 6:1-2,"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein?"  teaches us that at some point we must stop our sinfulness, so too  the one that sins against us must learn from their mistakes and not continue to be sinful. Remember at some point in time the shoe will be on the other foot.

If love lives in us then why can't we appreciate these simple things that cause so many problems. When I do my self examination on a daily basis, I realize why so many people have side stepped me, because I really have not forgiven them, I have only forgotten, the hurt still remains, and that is a sad thing. God is not pleased with me, and I have decided that I will change my outlook and do what God expects, starting today and forever....

BOJ Govenor finally gone..

This man has been paid twice as much as the Federal Reserve Chairman for the last 8 years, and what has been the benefit. It is just crazy what is happening in beautiful Jamaica. How can anyone in their right mind be paid $38M a year and the country is in such a mess? Does this man even have a heart? To me it seems that Jamaica is just falling and falling, and soon will be beyond reach. Now we are hearing that Omar Davies is saying that the reason for his firing is no true. Mr. Davies was the man who put this guy in office in the first place, he should be ashamed of himself. The poor taxpayers have had to continue to support this type of non sense for too long.

JC match marred by parent's action...

Coach Henry being restrained by staff
after his player was attacked by a parent

If we thought the incident last week where Ashani Walker having suffered a serious head injury with no ambulance or doctor available to treat him was serious, then yesterday's action by a parent from Calabar on a Jamaica College (JC) player was just disgraceful. ISSA has again failed to protect the schoolboys in this year's competition. Apparently the parent, after seeing his son receive a strong tackle from the JC  player invaded the field and punched the boy in his face. After reading the details I was totally shocked and speechless.

It seems that these incidents always happen when JC is playing. It is also clear that ISSA is not accountable to anyone. After the incident they stated that they had enough security and that they could not man every area.  This excuse does not fly with me. First of all, apart from the security, the Constant Spring management is responsible for the compound, they should have ensured that the venue is properly fenced and that every precaution was taken. They have failed miserably, and this is the result. As coach Henry rightly stated, this young man could have been seriously injured even killed by this parent.

My own view is that the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) should take over schoolboy football. Until this is done, there will continue to be problems in these competitions. Let us hope that the JC team will feel comfortable playing at Constant Spring in their next match..

The only good thing is that JC won the match 2-1..

Lessons from the Recession...

The last 18 months have been a real challenge for everyone in the world. Some have lost their jobs, homes and families, due to the economic fallout globally. It has hit the poorer countries harder than the first world and developed countries. It is very easy to lose hope in the face of a recession, as it seems that every turn you make there is a road block. At these times it is also easy to doubt God, and to even say there is no God. Why would God allow us to suffer under a Recession? This question would be in mind, when a person loses everything.

It is clear though that if people don't learn from this recession, then when will they learn. All the people with common sense have stated that the current recession has been caused by greed by a certain elite group, that even in the face of minor recovery continue to exploit the poor. It is also evident that even if the world recovers from this recession, one is sure to emerge again within the next 5-10 years. The parameters remain the same, the powers that be continue to strive for riches, by their greed.

Greed like so many other sins continue to rule mankind. Colossians 3:5, "Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;" Our evil desires and coveteousness are mentioned as idolatry. My belief is that these two more than anything else are the reason we are now faced with an unprecedented recession.

For Christians we must not fall into the trap of the world. We have seen where persons you invested heavily in investment clubs, like myself have been veiled by greed to make lots of money. If we don't learn from those mistakes, then like a mule falling into a ditch, so will we.

God has promised to save us from this evil world. 2 Peter 3:13, "But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."  The problems of this world will never end, and as we recover from this recession, mankind will continue to want to reap more and more at the expense of the poor and the weak.

Lessons from travelling....

Often times when we decide to take a trip via bus, train or plane we never really consider the consequences. We pack our bags and we assume that all will go smoothly. The thing is that when we say our goodbyes to our love ones that day before our trip, it could actually be our last goodbye. Since 9/11 travelling has become even more scary for many. You can never know what the journey will bring.

When I flew out last night on my 7 hour trip it really made me think about life. You see when you are 39,000 feet in the air, you have alot of time to think about life. The reality is, your life is now in God's hands. The truth of the matter is that at all times this is the case. Each day that we awake that is the reality.

The point though is that everytime time that we leave our loved one, we should always consider that it could be the last day we might see them. When we travel, we should not only pack our earthly things, but we should carry God with us always. We should endeavor to tell those we care about our true feelings. As James 4:13-14 reminds us that our life is just a mist, here now and then gone.

Over time I have developed the habit of telling my parents how much I love them and how much they mean to me. We often think that we will outlive our parents, but no one knows tomorrow. That is the same principle I have applied for my wife and all those I love dearly.

Even though I enjoy travelling, the more I do it is the more I realize how trivial I take life. I've now learned that daily I must put plans in place for all my journeys, so that if it is my last I would have been prepared for any outcome. Life is so short, we never truly accept that....

Jamaica College wins Walker Cup...

Its been over 100 years since the Walker Cup, and Jamaica College (JC) had not won it before, until Friday October 30, 2009 when they added this trophy to the many won before. It was a great feeling when I read via Facebook that JC had achieved this feat. While a student at JC I witnessed many losses to St. George's College in the Walker Cup Final. It was definitely a proud feeling to see the guys win. It was especially proud to watch boys that I had actually helped in one way or another rise to the occasion. Ashani Walker is a standout in all of this as I watched him play in the Manning Cup Final in 2007, when we finally won that trophy again after some 30 years. He has really blossomed as a young man and captain of the team. He has shown that you can balance football and school work.

It is now on to the Manning Cup second round. The feeling in the JC camp must be very high right now, and if they can get some needed rest before their next match, then they could also be in contention for that title also. Whatever happens they are the Walker Cup Champions, and that is what matters most. Congrats to Mr. Forbes, Coach Henry, the outstanding players, and of course the many old boys who have contributed to the success of many teams over the years.
