Steven Pienaar

Hosts South Africa faces tough competition in the 2010 World Cup. Drawn in the same group with World Cup contenders Mexico and France they face an uphill task to advance from this mini group of death. As hosts, they will be even under more pressure from their local fans. South Africa passionately called 'Bafana Bafana' has an estimated population of 48 million people. They will rest their hopes on Steven Pienaar, who currently plays for Everton in the Barclay's Premier League. Pienaar was brilliant in defeat against Brazil in the Confederation Cup last year, and also against Spain in that competition.

In their last three warm up games Bafana Bafana has won two and lost one. In their last match against Jamaica, even though winning by 2-0, their defense line seemed at sea and will have to improve in this area. They also lack a strike force up front and will have to rely heavily on their skilful midfield to orchestrate goals.

They will face the mighty Mexico in their first match, and there is no doubt that their back line will be tested by the fast moving Mexicans. Good luck Bafana Bafana your home crowd in behind you...
