Lessons from money..

When I was young, I often heard people say that "its the money why he is like that". Money has gotten so much blame for the things that happen to human beings. It is easy to put the blame on money instead of the person's greed and lust for money. In fact, coveteousness has been a problem with mankind from the beginning of time. Cain was the first man to covet his brother, and we saw what happened in that situation.

In the last two years, alot of persons including me, have lost alot of money in these so called investment schemes. The truth is that we all were greedy, instead of taking our time like the ant to grow our savings, we wanted to have the riches overnight. The result is always the same, heartache, when we allow money to rule our lives. The bible teaches us in Timothy 6:10 that the love of money is the root of all evil. It is obvious, that the love of money drives us to evil. I have had friends who basically stopped talking to me because they became rich. They even stopped hanging out with their friends. This has not only happened in the world, but right in the church. In Jamaica, we say "dem switch". They really switch off, and are now controlled by their evil desires.

The great Solomon put it quite nice, in Ecclesiastes 5:10, "He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity." I have a phrase that I coined many years ago, it goes like this, "vanities best friend is the mirror". We often spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, being so concerned with our ego, all this is truly vanity.

But coming back to the matter at hand, money is useful to pay the bills and enjoy one's self now and again, but in the end it destroys our relationship with our friends and our family, if we allow it to seduce us into falling in love with it.  It is clear that we become seduced by it, and once the love affair has started then we forget about the hurt that we give to others, as we are caught up in showing off that we now have it. In the end as Solomon states, we will never be happy even when we have it.

So wouldn't it be better to just earn enough to take care of our families, and if we have some reserves, great. But can a man work 24/7 just because he wants to be rich? When you live in North America you see that mentality everyday, people will work seven days a week, because they want to make lots of money. In the end, you never hear them say they thank God for his blessing of money. The grab for money becomes so addictive that they are constantly chasing a dollar. In the end, they get sick or die, and they never have a chance to enjoy it. Isn't that crazy. Life is more than money. It is about showing love to each other, giving of ourselves daily unto God, and if he blesses us with money, then it wonderful, we can take care of our families, our debts and if we have some left over then we can help our friends in need, and if we even have more left, then we can put it in a savings account.

Money can't buy love or happiness..

This life..

Oh the words of Solomon ring out,
vanity of vanities this life is,
the money,
the toil of man,
all trapped underfoot,
waiting to be trampled,

when will the selfish cease their works,
the hatred,
the cursing,
the gossips,
always seeking to hurt,
vanity of vanities,

Oh the bible is never wrong,
what good hath a man with money or luxuries,
if he has failed to bow his knees in praise to God,
what happiness does he gain,
when he causes so much pain to his fellowman,
its all but vanity of vanities,

The mirror no longer recognizes his face,
his identity drains in the sink below,
he curses the heavens,
saying God could never make him suffer,
oh the stain of his blasphemy,
a wretched soul lost to the world,
all because of vanity of vanities,

The bible is never wrong,
all of this life is just vanity of vanities,
will we ever learn to accept that,
or will be join the pig in its sty....

Lessons from relationships....

Nowadays we watch movies that we seem to believe reflect our relationships with one another. It is quite surprising that the one of the most important things is so lacking. People surround themselves with money and think that happiness will be born, only to wake up one morning to loneliness and sorrow. Some think that indulging in lewd behavior will satisfy them, but the high is only temporary, never lasting longer than he moment. Relationships have been seriously eroded throughout the years, by the selfish deeds on mankind.
Even in the world of Christianity, relationships are strained, as people only focus on their immediate needs. No consideration is often given for others, it doesn't matter if feelings are hurt, as long as I am okay. When we read John 15:13, which says, "greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends", we come to realise what a true relationship with someone is. Are we willing to lay down our lifes for our friends? Not just for our spouses or siblings, but for anyone that we honestly care about, even those we don't care about.

A couple years ago when I was in the world, going to night clubs and pretending to be someone that I wasn't. I took my cousins out one night to party. These were my female cousins who I would consider as my friends, even my sisters. It so happens that a fight broke out between two guys and one pulled a gun. Without even thinking I remember jumping in front of my cousins, willing to take a bullet for them. It sounds crazy, but I valued their lives more than mine, I was their protector, I felt as I though I was responsible for them.

This act made me realise that this is truly what a relationship with someone is. As a Christian understand this concept better. This is how I feel about people in my life. It drives me to respect them even more than I do. Jesus Christ teaches us everything about relationships with one another. He washed the feet of his disciples many a time, when they felt that they should be washing his feet. After all he was the Son of God. This was one of  his acts of love to them, not putting himself above them, even though he was, but humbling himself to teach them a valuable lesson. His sacrifice for all of us teaches us that we don't live for ourselves, but we live to sacrifice ourselves for others.

A relationship can never be built on false promises or sweet words, but must be built on the foundation that Christ made for all of us. When we fail to realise the gravity of his love, we fail to see how we should love one another. It is not an easy task to love someone when they hurt you, but that is what God demands of us. That we not only love ourselves, but that we must love our neighbor as we love ourselves [Mark 12:31].

Relationships are not built on the things of the world. When we come to realize this, then we will live better with each other, and we won't be so caught up in ourselves.

God's willing....

Will I live another day,
my prayer to God is what I say,
the bad things I have done I contemplate,
trying so hard to meditate,
I often hesitate,
wondering why my thoughts collide,
wondering if he hears my words,
his truth fills my heart,
washing my past away,
but sin returns to torment my soul,
my knees are sore,
my lips are burning,
God's willing is what I echo,
he peers into my soul each second,
finding all my misdeeds,
no chance of hiding,
at times it feels like I am sliding,
God's willing is my cry,
my God I leave it up to you,
rescue me from heartache,
pull me from the vile of men,
they bring only heartache,
they are beasts waiting to devour my soul,
God willing is my hope....

If only...

If only you were different,
the tears that shine my cheeks would disappear,
there would be no need for sadness,
nor broken promises,
the truth would be a banner flown,
from every corner of my heart,
the sunshine would once again peer through the cracks of doubt,
life would be worth living once more,
time would slide through the hourglass without sorrow,

If only you could change,
the clouds filled with rain would hide behind the sun,
forgiveness would be your anthem,
betrayal would be drowned in hope,
the many sacrifices of the ages would be worthwhile,
one day love would walk back into the fold,
not holding on to the past,
but free to live again,
without grudge,
or blood filled rage,

If only.....

French Vogue fiasco....racism 101..

Lara Stone in blackface
Lara Stone

Oh no they didn't. Instead of hiring a black woman to be on the cover of French Vogue, they painted model Lara  Stone, in what they call blackface. While we know the French are notoriously racist, this just adds insult to injury. The cover has created a severe backlash for the editor Carine Roitfeld. Their claim is that blackface represents sexuality.

This is just totally absurd. Recently I wrote an article where Naomi Campbell was criticising the use of only white models on the covers of these magazines. It seems that they took offense to Naomi's complaining and tried to hit back with this racist facade

There was recently an incident in Australia, where the "Jackson Five" was played by white men dressed in blackface. In that situation they portrayed black people as buffoons. The term blackface is associated with buffoonery and racism (because black people could not perform in the same places as white people).

It just shows you that the more things change the more they remain the same. When will the insults cease against black people and other people they call minorities. At this stage in history, this nonsense should be getting better, but everyday someone highlights the ignorance of these people.

It should be noted that not all white people are racist. If you look at the recent presidential victory of Obama for instance, it was mainly the majority which is white that voted for him. There is just a minority of racists who continue to fuel hate towards others. As we say in Jamaica, "God nah sleep..."

Ghana becomes first African team to win under 20 World Cup...

Just a few hours ago, Ghana became the first African team to win the under 20 World Cup. They defeated Brazil in penalty shootouts 4-3. Ghana had been reduced to 10 men after Addo was sent off in the 37th minute for a tackle from behind on Alex.

However, Ghana weathered the storm to come away with a memorable victory for Africa. With South Africa hosting the 2010 World Cup, this is truly a blessing for African football which has promised so much but has failed to deliver. This was Ghana's third trip to the final of the under 20 World Cup.

Congrats Ghana, its about time Africa stamps their class on world football.....

Racist Justice of the Peace refuses to marry interracial couple in Louisiana...

A Justice of the Peace, Keith Bardwell in Louisiana has refused to marry a interracial couple claiming that, "he was concerned for the children who might be born of the relationship and that, in his experience, most interracial marriages don't last."

The couple, Beth Humphrey and Terence McKay were told by the JP that he does not marry interracial couples. The JP said that he has married black couples before, but does not support interracial couples. Is this civilized America? Are we back in the dark ages of racism? Now don't get me wrong, I never for a second thought that racism was gone. Even with a black president we see the attacks he has been getting from those racist groups. This is truly very shocking to me though. These people are truly amazing.

Well the good news is that the couple is working with the NAACP and an attorney in getting this JP removed from his public position. This man seem to have forgotten that a JP is a public office and not his own household affair.

My my my..I am still in a state of shock. This was the case in parts of Canada for a while also, so all those who believe that Canada was any different, please wake up now...

Lessons from death..

When you have quiet time, a lot of thoughts seem to form. Often times the topic of death crosses one's mind. It seems that everytime someone you know dies, you consider that it could be you next. But those thoughts often last about a day or maybe even a week, then you return to life in a sense.

I have a friend who used to have a picture on his wall. The picture was on the wall was a casket. People would often ask him, why a casket? He would reply, " because I am always putting my life into perspective, when I think I rule my destiny, I look up at the casket. When I think I am an island and the world stops with me, I look upon the casket."

On my wall at home, I have the passage, James 4:13-14, [4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:4:14 Whereas ye know not what [shall be] on the morrow. For what [is] your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away], to remind me that my life is not mine. I don't control my destiny in no shape or form. Without God I am nothing, an empty vessel just going through the motions of this life. He controls my breaths and my steps.

It is easy to lose focus and think that tomorrow is a guarantee. There are times when I forget that I have to answer to above each second of the day, distracted by the world. I have to remember that death is always at my doorstep, waiting and watching my every move. But I do not fear death anymore, because I know that God is with me, holding my hands, leading me to a better place.

President Obama wins Noble Peace Prize...

President Barack Obama again shocked the world when he was selected as the 2009 Noble Peace Prize winner. The panel noted that it is "designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and co-operation rather than unilateralism."

Many critics have already been saying that it is too early in his campaign, but Obama has demonstrated his willingness to break down the dividing walls that continue to destabilize the world. No other President in recent time has had the impact that he has on the world. It is no doubt that these factors came to bear in panels decision to acknowledge him in this manner.

Let the critics continue to talk bad things, the President will continue his good words. "You can't keep a good man down..."

Cash Plus money found?..

Hmmmmm is what I have to say. Amazing how Carlos Hill was able to hide so much money in these Swiss Banks. I am truly happy for those you will get back their money, I have a little change there as well so I would be very grateful. The same amount of energy being put into getting back people's money in CashPlus should be followed in all the other schemes, such as Olint, WorldWise and the list goes on and on.

The focus has been on CashPlus, but so many others seem to be let off the hook. It was obvious that the same type of fraud took place with these other Companies. Yet there is no real outcry in the media about these other entities. Could it be that the powers that be have their monies tied up in these schemes? One hears that Olint sponsored even political parties in their campaigns in the last election. Is that the reason why our prime minister and other MPs have not uttered a word about Olint? Why is it that similar charges have not been filed against Olint and other Companies?

The Turks and Caicos have filed suits against Olint, so why has Jamaica not followed. Many people, innocent people have lost their money because of Olint and other Companies, so why has nothing been done. Only time will tell if the reasons will be revealed.

There is joy and happiness for CashPlus investors, but the sorrow continues for others who have been badly affected by these fraudulent schemes, who have robbed people's money.....

Brazil wins Olympic bid...

Despite President Obama and family and Oprah Winfrey's efforts to boost Chicago's chance of hosting the event, Brazil won the right to host the 2016 Olympics. It is the first time that a South American country has been given the rights to host the event. While the Americans are upset, it is about time that a developing country gets it. Brazil is ranked in the top 10 richest countries in the world, and as a member of the BRIC countries [Brazil, Russia, India and China], they are now flexing their muscles. Brazil is expected to be ranked in the top 5 countries in the world by 2016. The only concern now is the massive crime problem they face in Rio de Janeiro.

Do you think...

When you tear someone's heart out with words,
do you think that they don't bleed,
or that tears don't mar their eyes,
Is sorrow such a delight for you?
Will tomorrow change your mindset?

When you use and abuse the righteous,
do you think that God is hidden in the clouds,
and that he doesn't care anymore,
does your conscience ever prick you,
or you've buried it in evil,

When you laugh at grief,
do you think that there will never be relief,
or do you continue to live in disbelief,
is there any hope in you,
or have your heartaches been turned to stone,

When you follow the lost,
do you think you will find your way,
or just continue to stray,
searching feverishly for your destiny,
will reality one day fill your soul....

Plea for help.....

Following disaster in the Philippines there is a cry for help for the families. The Philippines has been hit by a number of typhoons and over 200 persons have already been killed. There is further threats that more typhoons will hit over the weekend. While several donations have been set up, I am unable to state the names of them. One of my friends who is from there has been pleading for help. As soon as I have the website I will post it on this blogs. Please pray from them and the other countries that have been hit by disaster this week...

They just don't stop....

The anger,
the fear,
the loneliness of this world,
trapped in darkness,
blinded by vanity,
staring coldly in the mirror,

Tears falling in the cracks of sadness
can't seem to find gladness,
refraining,
restraining one's self,
the ego,
way down to zero,

Tomorrow,
hoping,
trying to dope the mind,
praying that sunshine will rip through the clouds,
the shadows,
trapped in the meadows below,
clinging closely to the hillsides,

They just don't stop,
the ringing,
the bringing of doubt,
negative minds,
filled with despair....

Olint boss in jail...

Olint boss, David Smith was remanded into custody on Tuesday, after his bail of US$1M was revoked. Smith who has been charged with money laundering, fraud and other charges due to his involvement in an alleged Ponzi Scheme where it is believed he pocketed over US$6B.

His wife Tracy who was jointly charged, however, had her bail extended. The case against Olint [David Smith] in the Turks and Caicos seems to be moving at a snail's pace. Unlike the case with Madoff, Sanford and Earl Jones, this has become a real joke. Its been almost one year and these jokers in the Turks have not made a decision. The case has been put off several times, without a reasonable excuse. It is also interesting that liquidators were appointed to pay back persons, even before Mr. Smith's case is completed.

In the Caribbean I guess we have become used to small island politics and corruption, and the Turks and Caicos is no different. We have seen where the British have returned due to corruption on the part of the former premiere, Michael Misick, who was also a close ally of David Smith.

We only hope that this case can be completed soon, as our money is being depleted on legal fees. One way or the other, I don't expect to get back my money. Only a lawsuit will ensure that I do....
