South African Caster Semenya has been under a cloud for the last 2 days. Having won the 800M women's race at the IAAF World Championship in Berlin, her gender has come into question. While having dominant male chromosome features, Semenya has said over and over again that she is female. After several protests the IAAF said they would have to run tests on her to find out if she is female. It was reported today that her family had published her birth certificate and photos in a South American newspaper. This seems quite disgraceful to me, the IAAF had a lot of time to consider the athletes who are attending the WC, so how is it that they are choosing now to do these tests. This has cast a shadow over the WC, and just shows that there is alot of work for the IAAF to do for future events. Semenya had said she would not collect your medal yesterday, but was convinced to do so. The IAAF has said that even if the test prove that she is not female, she would be allowed to keep her medal. This to me is all 'after the fact'...time will tell...you can't just embarrass someone like this...amazing...
